I REALLY ENJOYED LISTENING TO THE ARTIST TALK BY GREAT ARTIST ANDREW NORRIS. HE CREATES THIS ARTWORK BY TAKING ADVANTAGE OF OIL PAINT’S LUMINOSITY TO CONSTRUCT ALTERNATIVE REALITIES IN SPACE AND USE SATURATED COLORS AND THIN GLAZES TO CREATE SEMI-REALISTIC FIGURES THAT EVOKE A SENSE OF HYPER-MASCULINITY AND SEXUALITY. ADVERTISEMENTS, ESPECIALLY ONES UTILIZING TRENDY CELEBRITIES, HAVE BEEN THE MAIN INFLUENCE IN HIS RECENT WORK THAT COMBINES THE EXPLORATION OF COMIC BOOK ICONOGRAPHY. ALSO, HE IS INTERESTED IN IMAGES OF DESIRE IN A WAY THAT MIMICS THE FORMAT OF HIGH FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY WHILE AMPLIFYING THE MASCULINE IDEAL. AS HE GOT SOME DEFECT IN HIS BODY, HE CLAIMED THAT “THROUGH THOSE PAINTINGS, I HOPE TO UNDERSTAND AND ARTICULATE MY OWN DESIRE TOWARD THE MASCULINE IDEAL BODY.” THERE IS A RELATIONSHIP OF DICHOTOMY IN IDEAS ABOUT MALE BEAUTY, BOTH OF EXISTING IN THE WORLD OF IT AND OUTSIDE OF IT. HIS PAINTINGS HAVE THEIR OWN LOGIC AND RULES, MAINTAINING THEIR OWN BELIEVABLY IN THE SPACE

I ENJOYED THE ARTIST TALK BY AMERICAN MULTIDISCIPLINARY ARTIST ALEXANDRA BELL, SHE CREATES HER ARTWORK THROUGH LARGE-SCALE PASTE-UPS OF NEW YORK TIMES ARTICLES EDITED TO CHALLENGE THE PRESUMPTION OF "OBJECTIVITY" IN NEWS MEDIA. USING MARGINALIA, ANNOTATION, REDACTION, AND REVISIONS TO LAYOUT AND IMAGES, BELL EXPOSES RACIAL AND GENDER BIASES EMBEDDED IN PRINT NEWS MEDIA. AS A QUOTE BY MICHAEL OMI & HOWARD WINANT: “ THE POWER OF THE MEDIA LIES NOT ONLY IN THEIR ABILITY TO REFLECT THE DOMINANT RACIAL IDEOLOGY BUT IN THEIR CAPACITY TO DEFINE IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.” NEWS SHOULD BE REAL AND RESPECT THE REALITY, MUCH NEWS APPARENTLY IS NOT, HOWEVER.  BELL USES HER CRITICAL THINKING PROCESS TO EDIT THE NEWSPAPER TO CLAIM THE RIGHTEOUSNESS. I APPRECIATE HER CRITICAL THINKING ABILITY, SHE COULD DISTINGUISH THE LIE FROM THE FAKE NEWS, AND JUDGE THE NEWS OBJECTIVELY. FINAL PROJECT!

  AS I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE MY PERSPECTIVE IN APPRECIATING THIS WORLD, MY PROJECT FOR THIS TERM IS WORKING ON THE FLICKER POST AS THE CONTINUATION OF THE WORK WE DID LAST TERM. ON MY FLICKER SITE, THERE ARE 283 PHOTOS BEEN SORTED OUT INTO 21 ALBUMS; 293 PHOTOS AND 15 ALBUMS ARE THE WORK I DID THIS TERM. THOSE PHOTOS DEMONSTRATE THE BEAUTY IN MANY DIFFERENT LOCATIONS IN THIS WORLD: THERE ARE PICTURES FROM CITIES IN CHINA, JAPAN, CANADA, AND THE US. I CATEGORIZED MY ALBUM WITH SOME MAIN FEATURES AND STORIES IN THE PHOTOS.   AND LET ME INTRODUCE THE NEW CREATED ALBUMS BELOW:    VLONE: VLONE MEANS WE ARE ALONG, IN WHICH THERE IS A GREAT CONTRAST BETWEEN THE WE AND ALONG. NORMALLY, WHEN PEOPLE GATHER TOGETHER, THEY WILL NOT FEEL ALONE, HOWEVER AS WE NOWADAYS LIVE WITH PEOPLE BUT STILL FEEL ALONE SOMETIMES. MY ARTIST REPORT PROJECT FOR THIS TERM IS NOT ON THE LIST THAT PROFESSOR JOHN PROVIDE US BECAUSE I HAVE FOUND AN GREAT ARTIST WHO IS WORTH LETTING OUR CLASSMATES GET FAMILIAR WITH. WHEN I WENT TO THE ART GALLERY MILWAUKEE, I SEE THE ARTWORK  CRYING GIRL,  I WAS REALLY THRILLED AND CHECKED ON THE BACKGROUND OF THAT ARTWORK AND THE ARTIST I FEEL LIKE THAT THIS ARTIST IS THE ONE I COULD DO MY REPORT ON. IN MY REPORT, THE SUPERSTAR IS ONE OF THE FOUNDERS IN THE POP ART— ROY LICHTENSTEIN. POP ART IS AN ART MOVEMENT THAT EMERGED IN THE 1950S AND FLOURISHED IN THE 1960S IN AMERICA AND BRITAIN, DRAWING INSPIRATION FROM SOURCES IN POPULAR AND COMMERCIAL CULTURE. DIFFERENT CULTURES AND COUNTRIES CONTRIBUTED TO THE MOVEMENT DURING THE 1960S AND 70S ROY IS A KEY FIGURE IN THE POP ART MOVEMENT AND BEYOND, ROY LICHTENSTEIN GROUNDED HIS PROFOUNDLY INVENTIVE CAREER IN IMITATION—BEGINNING BY BORROWING IMAGES FROM COMIC BOOKS AND ADVERTISEMENTS IN THE EARLY 1960S, AND EVENTUALLY ENCOMPASSING THOSE OF EV

HERE AS I PROMISED IN PROJECT UPDATE NO1, I WENT TO THE ART GALLERY MILWAUKEE TO GATHER SOME INSPIRATION AND THE MATERIAL FOR MY PHOTOSTREAM. THERE ARE SOME REALLY THOUGHT-PROVOKING AND INTERESTING ARTWORKS THAT STIMULATE MY IDEA OF CREATING AN ALBUM, IN WHICH TO POST UP SOME PICTURES I TOOK IN THE GALLERY (NOT ONLY THE ART GALLERY MILWAUKEE). AT THIS MOMENT, I HAD FINISHED UP POSTING THE GALLERY ALBUM, IN WHICH INCLUDED IN THE ARTWORKS IN THE TORONTO ART GALLERY AND SOME OF THE SIDE ART PRODUCTS I HAVE IN MY LIFE.   I BELIEVE IN THE CYCLIC “RESURRECTION OF DIFFERENCE”, BECAUSE FROM MY PERSPECTIVE, THE WORLD IS CHANGING, AND EVERYTHING IS DEVELOPED TOWARDS ITS OWN DIRECTION, HOWEVER, EVERYTHING MUTUAL RESTRAIN EACH OTHER THROUGH THE PROCESS OF DEVELOPMENT. AND THE DIFFERENCE OCCURS WHEN THINGS DEVELOPED IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS BUT DUE TO THE MUTUAL RESTRAIN, THE DEVELOPMENT OF DIFFERENCE WILL STOP AT THE PEAK, AND DEVELOP TOWARD THE WAY BACKWARD. BY NOW, I HAD ALREADY UPLOADED AROUND 80 PHOTOGRAPHS ON THE FLICKER SITE AND CATEGORIZED THEM INTO 4 ALBUMS: JAPAN, CHINESE PEOPLE IN CHINESE EYES, MONOTONOUS, AND ARCHITECTURE. I GET REALLY INSPIRED BY A QUOTE IN THE BOOK THAT “ABSTRACTION TODAY IS NO LONGER THAT OF THE MAP, THE DOUBLE, THE MIRROR, OR THE CONCEPT. SIMULATION IS NO LONGER THAT OF A TERRITORY, A REFERENTIAL BEING, OR A SUBSTANCE. IT IS THE GENERATION BY MODELS OF A REAL WITHOUT ORIGIN OR REALITY: HYPERREAL.” THIS QUOTE GIVES ME AN IDEA THAT THINGS COULD JUMP OUT OF THE BOUNDARY THEY SHOULD HAVE. BASED ON THIS IDEA I REAFFIRM MY THOUGHT THAT USING THE PHOTOGRAPHS FROM A LOT OF PLACES IN THIS WORLD AND FINALLY PROVIDE THE FINAL PROJECT AS AN ABSTRACT WORLD TOUR. I BRING THE VIEWER TO THE PLACE I TOOK THE PHOTOGRAPH AND LET THEM SEE THOSE PLACES. I CONSIDER THIS PROCESS LIKE TAKING AN ABSTRACT JOURNEY.  LATER ON, I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A TRIP TO THE ART GALLERY MILWAUKEE TO SEE THE ART EXHIBITION GET SOME INSPIRATION, AND TA

PHOTOSTREAM TRAVEL

  I DECIDED TO WORK ON POSTING THE PHOTOGRAPHS ON THE FLICKER SITE AS THE PROJECT I DO THIS TERM WITHOUT ANY HESITATION BECAUSE I THINK PHOTOGRAPH IS THE MOST STRAIGHTFORWARD WAY TO CONVEY AN IDEA, AND I AM GOOD AT USING THE VISUALIZED WAY TO EXPRESS MY THOUGHT, MORE IMPORTANTLY, I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE PEOPLE MY AESTHETIC PERSPECTIVE. AS I TRAVELED A LOT IN THE PAST AND TOOK A LOT OF PHOTOGRAPHS IN A LOT OF PLACES, I ALWAYS USE THOSE PHOTOGRAPHS TO HELP ME REMIND THE JOYFUL TIME THAT I TRAVEL; AND EVERY TIME I LOOK THROUGH THOSE PICTURES, I FEEL LIKE I TOOK THE JOURNEY AGAIN. IN THIS PROJECT MY IDEA IS THOUGH USE AND EDIT SOME OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS I SHOOT BEFORE IN MANY DIFFERENT COUNTRIES AND USE THE PHOTO I WILL SHOOT THIS TERM TO PROVIDE PEOPLE A VISUALIZED WAY TO PERCEIVE MY WORLD AND THE WORLD.     THE CONTENT OF MY PROJECT WILL BE FULL OF VARIETIES, IT WILL COVER MANY INTERESTING ANGLES OF VIEWING THE ORDINARY THINGS; I WOULD LOVE TO TRY TO LET PEOPLE SEE THE BEAUTY OF ORDINARY THIN
